What We Believe
As Episcopalians and Lutherans we believe that God has shown his love to us through the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Word of God, and it is in Him that we believe.
The grace of God, God’s love, is the center of our faith. Eternal life comes to us because of the grace of God through faith. Through the power of the Holy Spirit we are enabled to live in a manner that shows forth the love of God. We strive to make every activity of our church one that will strengthen each person in faith and bring each person more in tune with the presence of God.
St. Augustine's Episcopal Church is a Bible-Centered church. The Bible is the inspired message of God and the foundation of our faith, so every service contains four Bible readings and the message each week is based on those readings.
The Bible, along with reason and the teachings of those who have gone before us in the faith is the foundation of the Episcopal and Lutheran Churches’ teaching. Our understanding of the Bible is fallible, as is human reasoning and historical tradition; therefore, we welcome differing views and opinions, believing that God reveals Himself to people in different ways. Doubters and skeptics are welcome for we learn and grow when we seek and question. Diversity is a strength of our church. It is our goal as Christians to help each other grow in faith that shows itself through love. We grow together and help each other in becoming the very best we can be and the closest to the heart of God that is possible.
